The Vernon Judo Club meets at the Vernon Japanese Cultural Centre, 4895 Bella Vista Road.

Regular Classes run from September until the end of April (often into May for Nationals).

2017 Nationals

Congratulations to Avery, Brendan and Sydney on their 2017 national competitions in Calgary, where Brendan took home his third silver medal.



The VJC is located in the Western Canadian province of British Columbia, in the city of Vernon at the north end of Okanagan Lake.

The club was formed in 1944 by Mr. Y. Mori, in a time when martial arts were banned in many places and Japanese Canadians even required a special police permit to meet in groups. We’ve been practising ever since, making the VJC the longest continuously running club in Canada.

The club is run entirely by volunteers. Our parent group is a non-profit society dedicated to support our judoka.

We practice Monday and Thursday nights at the Vernon Japanese Cultural Centre, 4895 Bella Vista Road.

6:30-7:45 PM Junior/intermediate

7:45-9:15 PM Senior

Our season runs from early September to late April.

Advanced/conditioning sessions are on Wednesdays from 6:30-8 PM.  New for 2017, we are planning to run rec sessions at the same time.

Spectators are welcome at any time.



Winter Games Update

Congratulations to all four of our BC Winter Games candidates who all placed first in their division at the zone 2 trials (*or are the alternate for their division):  Teigan Bixby, Nadine Bondt, Kiyoshi Comley and Emma Houston*.

November Notes

Donna and Sydney at the Quebec Open, Camp and Ontario open.  Congratulations to Sydney on her Bronze in the U18 division. Remembrance day stat (Monday Nov 13) classes moved to combined class 7-8:30 (where younger judoka may bow off at 8). Our deadline for Steveston weights and registrations is Tuesday November 14. Registration continuing into October. We still have spaces in the 6:30 and 7:45 (kids’ and adult) classes. We also have received approval for a banner at McDonald Park.
